The Furniture Removal

 

There are two ways of booking a removal, you can either come in to one of our centres depending on where you are moving from, (e.g. if you are moving from the DG8 area you should contact our centre in Newton Stewart and if you are moving from the DG9 area you should contact our centre in Stranraer) and fill in a removal agreement form or fill in the removal agreement on this website, to view this form use the site Related Links menu.


Our removals are fairly priced but there is no set price as it depends on where the removal is from and to, and also how much stuff has to be moved once you have filled in the removal agreement we will contact you with a quote and if you are happy with the price we will book the removal once the agreed price has been paid.

(Please note we do not accept credit cards or debit cards)

1) Lower incomes and voluntary sector organisations.

Those clients in receipt of eligible benefits (e.g. Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity or related benefit income) OR an income of less than £10,000 per annum.

2) Income over £10,000 per annum, statutory or private organisations.

Those clients who are not in receipt of eligible benefits or with an income above £10,000 per annum

(Before pricing our services you must decide which category you fit into as you will need to provide evidence that you are in receipt of a low income to receive any reduction)

3) “Quick shift”

If you require a single item to be moved from one place to another we will charge a one off fee “Quick shift” is open to all types of clients.

For Quick shift customers, local collection and delivery points can be arranged by appointment. If the collection and delivery points are not local, more than a 5 mile radius of the town, we will provide you with a time and date when we will collect and a time and date when we will deliver the item.

Liabilities

The Furniture Project will not accept liability for items that have been incorrectly, insufficiently or generally poorly packed by the customer.

Insurance

Where personnel from The Furniture Project are required to assist in the removal, a compulsory insurance premium charge of £5.00 for insurance of the clients’ property during the removal process will be levied. This is non-refundable. This gives you the customer, replacement cover of up to £10,000 for loss or damage to property incurred during the removal process.

The Furniture Project will provide, and be responsible for arranging this cover with an insurer of our choice with the interests of the client and company in mind.

Quick shift clients have the insurance premium built into the cost of the removal.

Estimates


We provide a verbal or written estimate for a removal upon request. To enable us to provide an estimate you must complete the removal agreement for us to work out the cost.
A charge of £5.00 (for private individuals) and £10.00 (for companies & businesses) will be levied for providing any written estimate and will be collected by the representative before carrying out the estimate. This fee will act as a deposit and will be deducted from the total cost of the removal.
The representative will then provide you with a copy of the agreement between you and The Furniture Project. We will also provide a verbal quotation on the total cost, not including any additional time added on at the time of the removal.

Once we are aware of the type of quantity of items required to be moved, the removal agreement is signed and the fee is paid in full, the office staff will arrange an agreed time and date to carry out the removal and book the time, vehicles and staff required

Payment


Full payment of the removal cost must be paid at the time of booking (less the charge for quotation, where applicable).

Cancellations


Any cancellations will be subject to non-return of the fee for estimate, and in those cases where short notice is given by the client: within five working days of the removal, a change of one half of the estimated cost of the removal will be. This is to cover for business lost and loss of staff production time, which may have been used for other business on the time and date your removal was booked in.

The Furniture Project reserves the right to cancel any removal agreement at short notice due to business requirements or unavoidable circumstances. Should this happen an alternative time and date will be agreed with the client to provide the services at no additional charge.

Methods of payment


For business and commercial enterprise only invoicing for the total balance of payment is available by prior arrangement with The Furniture Project Manager.

Private customers can pay by cash or cheque with a valid bankers card or giro cheque. We do not accept credit or debit cards.

Prices


Our minimum charge for a removal is £100.00.

1) Lower incomes, registered charities and community groups.

The pricing for this category is based on a flat, hourly rate from when the van and personnel leave “The Furniture Project (Stranraer) Ltd” premises and ends on there return to the premises, included in the flat hourly rate are:

a) Providing the necessary personnel, van, driver and assistants to remove items from the customer’s first address and transport them to the clients chosen second address.

b) Providing the necessary fuel for the vehicles to transport the customer’s items.
Not included in the cost of the removal.

a) Single payment insurance premium

b) Any cancellation fees/deposits which apply when the customer cancels at short notice (within five working days of the date booked)

Breakdown of costs and prices

1) Quotation fee £5.00 (where applicable) refundable against total cost of removal

2) Insurance premium £5.00

3) Removal, minimum charge £95.00

4) Additional hours £30.00 per hour

Equals total cost of removal.

5) Deduct any discount

Insurance premium (£5.00) plus number of hours x £30.00
Minus any discount.

6) Packaging of household items is £10.00 per hour per person.

7) Additional hour’s charges are charged at £30.00 per hour with no discount.

Large/heavy items


If you require The Furniture Project, as part of the removal, to move large or heavy items such as a piano, we will have to increase our resources to ensure we move the item safely. Accordingly a one off charge is made for removal of this item, which is a minimum of £50.00 and in addition to the hourly rate.

We strongly advise to take out extra insurance cover with a reputable insure for such items.

Preparation & packing


The Furniture Project in certain instances will package household items for customers. I.e. into small boxes or large black bags. If you require packaging you must clearly request this option when discussing the removal with The Furniture Project staff. We must agree to this prior to signing the agreement, as it will be costed into the removal quote. Remember the more work we do the greater the cost is to you.

In ALL cases the customer will be required to sign a copy of the company’s removal agreement when making payment in full prior to the removal being carried out.

Your attention is drawn to the customer preparation sheet, which details ways in which you can reduce the amount of time taken to perform the removal and therefore keep your costs to a minimum.

Before your removal day...

it might be a good idea to have a look at this check list and double check you are ready to go!

Is your washing machine all disconnected?
Is your fridge/freezer emptied and disconnected
Is your cooker disconnected?
Are all your cupboards emptied and the contents packed away?
Are your valuables wrapped and packed safely away ready to go?
Do you have the keys to the new place where the items are being moved to?
Take meter readings from your gas/electricity and contact your utility company?
Cancel your newspapers and milk etc
Advise your bank, utility company (gas, electricity, water and council tax providers) of your change of address.
